Trainee CAD Automation Engineer

About the Role

FDES Technologies has spent 19+ years turning engineering rules into production software for manufacturers in 20+ countries. Our engineers write the add-ins, configurators and drawing generators that turn days of repetitive CAD work into minutes. Demand for SolidWorks automation has grown faster than we can hire experienced developers, so we are building the next generation ourselves.

This is a trainee role for mechanical engineers who have completed formal SolidWorks and AutoCAD training and want to move from using CAD to programming it. You do not need to know C# today. You need to understand parts, assemblies, drawings and BOMs properly, and to enjoy logical, structured problem-solving. We supply the programming.

How the First Year Works

• Weeks 1 to 12: paid structured training at our Hyderabad office. C# and .NET fundamentals, the SolidWorks API, the AutoCAD .NET API, macros and add-ins, Git, and how we build and test automation. Classroom sessions in the morning, hands-on exercises on real (anonymised) customer problems in the afternoon, with a senior developer as your mentor
• Week 6 onwards: shadowing live projects. You sit with a project team, read their code, and take small tickets under supervision
• Week 12: assessment. A practical build task and a technical review. On passing, you join a project team as a CAD Automation Engineer with a revised salary
• Months 4 to 12: full member of a delivery team, owning modules on SolidWorks and AutoCAD automation projects for customers in the US, Europe and Asia

What You'll Do After Training

• Build automation tools and add-ins on the SolidWorks API and AutoCAD .NET API in C#
• Convert design rules, standards and engineering drawings into reliable, maintainable code
• Generate parametric models, drawings and bills of materials automatically from customer inputs
• Test your work against real drawings and fix what breaks
• Work with senior engineers and customers to understand requirements and deliver on schedule

What We're Looking For

• Completed training on SolidWorks and AutoCAD from a recognised institute, or a college course with substantial CAD lab work. A CSWA or equivalent certificate is a plus, not a requirement
• A B.E., B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical, Production, Automobile, Mechatronics or Design engineering
• 0 to 2 years of experience. Fresh graduates from the 2025 and 2026 batches are welcome
• You can read an engineering drawing and model the part from it, with correct constraints, in SolidWorks. You know what a configuration, a mate and a design table are
• You can produce a clean 2D drawing in AutoCAD with layers, blocks and dimensions
• A logical mind. Any exposure to programming (C, Python, VBA, MATLAB, even Excel formulas or SolidWorks macros) is a strong signal, but attitude matters more than the language
• Willing to learn on a fixed schedule, take feedback, and be assessed
• Able to work from our Hyderabad office full-time

How We Hire

Our process is straightforward, and every stage happens at our Hyderabad office:

• Written test: engineering drawing reading, CAD concepts, and logical reasoning
• Practical CAD task: model a part from a drawing in SolidWorks and produce a drawing in AutoCAD, about 90 minutes
• Technical interview: how you think, how you approach an unfamiliar problem, and why you want to program CAD rather than use it

We care more about reasoning and attention to detail than about a perfect model.
